Obituary

ASHTON, Allan James - born March 8, 1951, Windsor Ontario, Canada died on 20 March, 2019, 10.40 am at Hospice Renfrew, Ontario after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the oldest son of Alma (Videan), Harrow Ontario and James Ashton, Windsor, and husband to Shirley Anne (Deslippe), Tecumseh Ontario. All predeceased. He is survived by his daughter, Cassie (Ashton Davies), her husband Pat, grandchildren Allyssa (Boughner) and Sterling (Davies), Waltham Quebec; son Jeremy, Vietnam; Oldest sibling to Father Thomas Ashton, Windsor Ontario, Dr. William Ashton, Brandon Manitoba, his wife Jan, their children Amurlee, Evelyn and Myles; sister Lori Ashton, Phuket Thailand. Married in 2014 to his second wife, Inthitra (Aon) Panchaipoom, her son Worawut, his wife Sangpoy and her granddaughter, Ketkanook, Thailand. In the early 1970's, as news and entertainment reporter for CKLW radio, Windsor, Allan, conducted live interviews and wrote about many international celebrities, authors, music and movie stars. Amongst them, and at the beginning of his career was Sir Elton John. The Beach Boys, Ringo Starr, Simon and Garfunkel, Tom Clancy, Leonard Nimoy, Chuck Berry, Don McLean, Spinners and the Smothers Brothers, were also subject to Allan's journalistic skills. His career as an international driver for Eastern Canada Car Carriers spanned over several years. He then returned to school studying furniture building and woodworking. Moving north, he enjoyed his early retirement wood working and creating a sizable family hobby farm. In true Allan style, he applied his strong work ethic and planning skills resulting in a bigger than expected farm. He took great pride planting heirloom species along with varying trees that held fond childhood memories. As an avid foodie, his home and cottage were open always to family and friends for scrumptious meals and relaxation. Sharing the cottage life where rules were twisted and any food including chocolate cake and ice cream were on the breakfast menu, was his absolute delight. He filled the hearts of others, while filling his own. The Ashton family sends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the caregivers who were genuinely zealous in both quality of service and personal attention. This includes: The St. Elizabeth's nursing team and PSW's, the Renfrew County LHIN and care coordination team. In his final days, we cannot extend enough gratitude to the incredibly kind care, without exception, at Hospice Renfrew. This truly is an amazing facility. Thank you. At Allan's request, there will not be a funeral or service. He will be cremated. A celebratory gathering will be held at a later date. If you would like to consider donations, the family would recommend sending to Hospice Renfrew, a not-for-profit organization and registered charity. www.hospicerenfrew.ca
